There's more to it than that

Quick, think of a particular martial arts movement. Picture it. Is it:
  1. A throw
  2. A lock
  3. An escape
  4. A strike to a vital point
  5. A block
  6. A trap
  7. An exercise to enhance your health
Hopefully, it will be most of those things. The obvious application of a technique -- at least in a sophisticated martial art -- is just the tip of the iceberg.

It is good to learn the choreography.
It is good to figure out additional applications.
It is good to identify connections to other techniques.
It is very good to continue looking.

Most importantly: Keep practicing.
